Exmoor is a stunning place where one can immerse oneself in rural life and a beautifully dramatic landscape.

Like many artists, I paint traditional landscapes of Exmoor, but having a horse means early starts and therefore amazing sunrises, and it would be impossible not to be inspired by the blaze of light and colour across the sky as it hits the leaves on an autumn beech hedge and almost sets it on fire. The deep valleys and moorland, the tapestry of hedgerows - some neatly cut, others overgrown - the mists, reflections on water, cloud banks and snow all make sunrises on Exmoor truly spectacular. I explore them with a range of media from oils to watercolour and mixed media, trying to capture the intense burning glow of those mornings.

Horses too, are a key feature of life on Exmoor from the drama of the hunt to the relaxed atmosphere of our local ‘fun rides’ and I have drawn and painted a number of commissions for local horse owners.
